I know people that have not started their business simply because the idea of building a website seems just too much. We hear it from small business all of the time. And I want you to ask yourself if any of these tip 5 excuses are you. and if they are, have a look at the advice and see how you can overcome these hurdles.

  1. I don’t know what I need my website to do

When you know nothing about web design, it is not easy to know what it is that you need your website to do. so I am here to tell you and help you get past this obstacle. Your website needs to tell the world who you are, what you do, why you do it and how to work with /buy from you. It is that simple. If you can answer these simple questions, then you already know what you need your website to do.

Your website is the cornerstone of your online footprint. It is your virtual showroom that you are inviting a potential customer into. They get to peruse your business, check you out, and decide if they want to do business with you.

  1. I hate my branding

If I had a dollar for every business that has said, “I want to update my logo before I do my website”, I could have paid off my house!! Yes, your branding is important, but colours and logos can be updated. The most important part of your website is the navigation, and that people can find what they are looking for on your site easily. Being helpful, making it easy to get questions answered and having information about what you do and how you do it is more important than the prettiness of the site. You need to do the pretty things last. Design the content and the navigation first, the branding will come when it is time to put it online.

  1. I don’t have time to learn how to do it!

Who does!! Today’s technology is not saving us time, it takes so much time and effort because we need to know the basics of everything in today’s business world. If you can’t afford to employ someone to do this for you, then you have to find the time to do it yourself. That’s your choices. And you don’t need to know everything, there is enough information today to help you do this yourself, just remember to keep it simple.

  1. It’s too big a job

Yes, it can be a nightmare of a job. But done well, this is going to be like bricks and mortar to your business. This is a showroom for your business that is open 24/7. This is our online persona, our online marketing, and our online salesperson. So once it is complete, you have a component of your business working for you all the time.

  1. I don’t know where to start

All new ventures raise this fear. It’s all about making a plan and a schedule to get it done by. Start by working out what you want to showcase about your business. The basics include deciding on a domain name and working out the purpose of the site. Collect all the content for the site, as in images and text. And do some research. Go and look at other sites and investigate. Write down what you like and what you don’t like about sites you visit and before you know it you will start to realise what you want your site to be like. Then you decide on your colours, logos and fonts.
